Alcohol and energy drink mingling is hazardous, say experts

Health experts have advised against combining alcohol and energy drinks, claiming that doing so is harmful.

The specialists who issued the warning said that young people in the community often engage in the behavior.

Tanimola Akande, a professor of public health at the University of Ilorin, said in an interview with Saturday PUNCH that those who combined alcohol and energy drinks were more likely to report unwanted or unsafe sex than people who did not.

According to Prof. Akande, mixing alcohol and energy drinks is a risky behavior that is becoming more common in our culture. Caffeine, plant-based stimulants, simple sugar, and other ingredients are often included in energy drinks.

It’s common, particularly among young people, to combine alcohol and energy drinks.

The don said that when caffeine is combined with alcohol, the depressive effects of the alcohol may be masked, causing consumers to feel more awake than they otherwise would.

“As a consequence, people could consume more alcohol and become less sober than they realize, raising the possibility of alcohol-related harms. Energy drinks that include alcohol or are combined with it may hide indications of intoxication and raise the risk of damage.

Additionally, Dr. Ibrahim Kuranga-Suleiman, head of the family medicine department at the University of Ilorin and consulting family physician, said that energy drinks included calories, sugar, and caffeine and shouldn’t be combined with other beverages.

“Mixing energy drinks with alcohol or other beverages can cause you serious damage. When you get hooked, it will turn into a medical problem, the expert said.
