Atiku is concerned about the assault on the Edo train.

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has voiced concern over the most recent assault on a railway station in the Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, during which armed men abducted an unspecified number of persons.

The unfortunate incident, according to Atiku, “is the latest in a long condemnable series of security breaches before unknown in our national history,” according to a news release issued by the Atiku Media Office on Sunday.

The presidential contender expressed his condolences to the victims of the assault and their families, saying, “My family and I are praying for the safe return of the kidnapped and their families.”

The need to urgently restructure our security architecture in order to effectively protect the lives and property of Nigerian people, he said, should be highlighted.

The PDP nominee for president also favored “putting diplomatic pressures required to prevent the unrestricted movement of light weaponry and assault weapons throughout the West African sub-region and across our borders.

We will significantly reduce the ability of terrorists to re-arm themselves to carry out attacks by doing this.

Following these policy recommendations, according to Atiku, would “significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children on our streets and improve the economy to create jobs for vast numbers of unemployed Nigerians, thereby reducing the pool from which these terrorists recruit people for their nefarious activities.

“I am certain that these steps will significantly reduce instances of insecurity and provide the safe atmosphere required for economic progress.”
