Why I left Nigeria for Germany, according to Jenz

The defender Moritz Jenz, who was born in Germany, has explained why he choose Germany over Nigeria.

The 23-year-German old’s mother and Bremen-born Nigerian father were both there at his birth in Berlin. His eligibility to represent any of the three nations results from this.

Jenz is presently on loan at Celtic from French Ligue 1 team Lorient, where Terem Moffi and Innocent Bonke are employed.

His stages of football growth took place in Germany and England, and Lausanne Sport in Switzerland gave him his first taste of full-time professional football.

The two-footed center defense has made an impact for Celtic so far this season under Australian boss Ange Postecoglou, scoring twice in five games.

While he has his sights set on playing for Die Mannschaft, his prospects of doing so with his own country are minimal, and Nigeria may approach him thanks to the FIFA regulation known as the Granny rule, which determines whether a player can play for a team other than his place of origin.

I’m eligible for Germany and Nigeria, but I’d choose Germany since that’s where I grew up, he recently told Glasgow Times.

“It’s a beautiful nation to play for, and perhaps one day I can make a few appearances, then maybe a few more, and then who knows, maybe even participate in a World Cup or Euros.”

But first, I have to give the club my all. That is the most crucial matter, and then we can discuss the national team.

Because this club is so large, he said, “I have a greater chance of getting there playing here.
