Ex-Deputy Speaker of the Rivers laments another another catastrophe on the East-West corridor.

The drive to urge Nigerians to cast as many votes as possible for Tobi Amusan, the current world champion and record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, is being led by Sports Minister Sunday Dare. Amusan is vying to become the first Nigerian to win the World Athlete of the Year award.

Amusan, 25, will be attempting to clear the last hurdle and become the first Nigerian to be named best of the best. No Nigerian has ever been nominated for the award, making him the first to be shortlisted.

One of the 10 candidates for the award, who will compete for the distinction, is the current Commonwealth Games champion and record holder in the 100m hurdles.

The finalists will be chosen via a three-way voting procedure, according to the global governing body for sports.

The World Athletics said that although fans may vote online via World Athletics social media channels, the World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their ballots by email.

Dare said that he has already voted for Amusan through the World Athletics social media platform and is now pushing Nigerians to do the same by using their smartphones, tablets, and/or laptops and desktop computers to support the country’s first female athlete.

According to the Minister of Sports, Amusan has done her bit; Nigerians must now do theirs.

“She has done her bit by earning a spot among the top 10 in the world; now it is our responsibility as Nigerians to assist her in accomplishing this historic accomplishment.

In this competition for the finest of the best, she needs our support in droves. Our votes will make up 25% of the total votes she needs to win the crown.

I’ve already voted for Tobi Express, sure thing. Please cast your vote for her,” Dare said.
