Gov. Diri Is Excited By Bayelsa United’s Promotion To The NPFL

After Bayelsa United won the Group B2 Southern Conference of the 2021–2022 Nigerian National League, Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri praised the state-sponsored football club (NNL).

Seven years after leaving the Nigerian Professional Football League, Bayelsa United won 2-0 over Cynosure of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State on Saturday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa to secure their promotion back to the top division (NPFL).

Governor Diri expressed his happiness that Bayelsa United finally received the much desired promotion to the NPFL after several efforts in a statement released yesterday by his chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah.

He praised the players’ tenacity and devotion as well as those of the technical staff under Coach Diepreye Teibowei, adding they had once again brought honor to the state.

The governor also commended the board’s chairman, Ebiki Timitimi, and other members for their dedication to carrying out his directive.

He remembered that this year, just as in 2021, when Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens respectively won the male and female divisions of the AITEO/FA Cup, the state had achieved a double.

The Bayelsa governor said that the state’s performance and sporting accomplishments during the previous 2.5 years proved that the state’s investment in sports and human capacity development was not an accident.

He emphasized that the investments were made with the goal of positively involving the state’s young and exhorted them to take advantage of the many possibilities the government has provided.

The governor went to the team’s practice on Thursday before the pivotal game and urged the players to secure victory, pledging to quadruple their match bonus and welcome them to dinner afterwards.
