No extension of UTME registration – Oloyede

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, said on Friday that the registration period for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will not be extended.

On February 14, the one-month window for UTME registration closes. Oloyede said that the inspection of various JAMB computer-based centers in Osogbo, Osun State, was conducted to make sure that there was no extortion of the customers.

Some parents requested an extension of time for registration in some of the centers we visited, claiming that difficulties created by the redesign of naira notes, which had resulted in a shortage of currency, had stopped them from procuring the personal identity number for their children.

However, the head of JAMB said, “I go around the nation to oversee the registration process and specifically draw attention to those committing violations; we get information about what is happening in the state.

We have intelligence on the ground, so when we are informed anything, as you witnessed with the Osun State College of Education, we would go there if it means sending my personnel there as well.

As you can see, we made it almost hard for candidates to complain in the past about extortion.

In order to find infractions, we have both technology and human resources employed. You can see that this year’s signal problem is not an issue.

“So, what we are doing is enhancing what we did last year, and that is why we are accessible in every region of the nation to check rigorous compliance with the legislation,” the statement continues.

“We are not contemplating any extension,” Oloyede said, “since anybody who is withdrawing money is not doing it in accordance with our guidelines. We are not selling an actual PIN; you get the PIN when you transfer money.
