Oyebanji Promises Support, Debuts Team Coach, Jersey for Ekiti United

The governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has committed to back Ekiti United Football Club’s goal of being promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League, the top division in the nation (NPFL).

He also promised the youth and residents of the state that his government was committed to using sports to inspire and positively influence young people.

During the formal reveal of the state-owned football team’s new uniforms, coach, and players ahead of the start of the 2023 season at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, Governor Oyebanji made a speech.

On this date, Ekiti United FC and Osun United FC played a friendly game that resulted in a scoreless tie.

According to Mr. Akin Oyebode, the commissioner for Finance, the government would keep funding sports with the minimal funds it has.

We’re dedicated to helping the squad develop and to fostering an atmosphere that will allow it to seek and win its much coveted promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The governor urged state residents and business organizations both within and outside the state to support government efforts to grow sports, stating that the government cannot do it alone.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ms. Tola Faseluka, praised the governor, Oyebanji, for his unusual enthusiasm and dedication to promoting Ekiti internationally via sports in her speech.

The governor’s support, according to Faseluka, has and will continue to build morale and inspire the thronging Ekiti young sportsmen and women to succeed and earn accolades for the state.

The game, according to team head coach Kehinde Anjorin, was meant to prepare the squad for their March 19 debut in the 2023 Nigeria National League.

In the condensed NNL Southern Conference B3 group, Ekiti United will compete against four other teams: Madiba FC of Lagos, Stormers FC of Abeokuta, FC Ebiede of Lagos, and Ikorodu United of Lagos.

The State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bunni Adelugba, the Head of Service, Barr. Bamidele Agbede, and other dignitaries are present at the ceremony.
