Yes, the bizarre spider voting sticker design you saw online was really utilized in one New York county.

Voters are now able to use the distinctive “I Voted” stickers with spider designs that swept the internet in July.

A 14-year-old from Ulster County, New York, named Hudson Rowan created the odd, vibrant artwork. Rowan won the county’s second-ever annual design competition for the “I Voted” sticker, an initiative intended to inspire kids to cast ballots. The design soon gained online renown since it stood out from others that were more simply made and directly tied to voting.

On October 29, early voting in New York began. According to local election officials, people have been more eager than ever to get their “I Voted” stickers.

The purpose of the sticker contest, according to Ashley Dittus, the Ulster County Elections Commissioner, was to “connect with young people.”

Every spring, we visit high schools to register kids to vote. They’re not actually engaged or paying attention half the time, she said.

In order to add “something uniquely from the young people in the community” to the voting process, the contest asked young people from all around the county to submit their own sticker designs.

The top six sticker designs were posted online by the electoral commission so that voters could choose their favorite.

According to Dittus, Rowan’s design “kept being disseminated.” People praised it for being really unique and for capturing the political mood.

A humanoid face with pink and purple skin, bright red eyes, and a six-legged body with neon-colored hair and fangs are shown in the design. The words “I Voted” are written in a brilliant red color.

According to Dittus, the design received hundreds of votes very immediately. The electoral commission had put in place safeguards the year before to stop people from casting multiple ballots from the same IP address, so they were certain the influx of votes was legitimate.

Over 228,000 people finally voted for the neon spider-monster.

According to Dittus, Rowan and his family appreciate how well-liked his unique design is. “His mother is really happy. He is a great sport.

Also, voters like the distinctive sticker. Dittus said, “People are utterly infatuated with it.” According to other voters, they “came and voted early because they wanted to acquire it before they ran out,”

According to Dittus, two individuals have even had the pattern tattooed. It’s great, and we’re enjoying it a lot, she remarked.

The election commissioner said that as of Thursday night, 12,000 citizens had used early voting.

According to Dittus, voters are “certainly in a better mood.” “The job we perform here has been questioned via Covid-19, all the political conflict. We get many election deniers, not unlike any other board.

She said, “If the stickers are getting people to come in and be kind to poll workers, then I would do this same thing every single year.”
