Ronaldo becomes most capped men’s footballer in the world

After playing for Portugal on Thursday night, forward Cristiano Ronaldo has now earned more men’s football caps than any other player in history.

In a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Liechtenstein in Lisbon, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player made a record-breaking 197th men’s international appearance.

In the World Cup match against Morocco, Ronaldo tied Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa for most appearances (196), but has since surpassed him.

The 38-year-old, who currently plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has also set a record for men by scoring 118 goals in international play.

In Qatar last year, he became the first man to score in five World Cups since making his international debut in 2003.

Cancelo’s goal in the eighth minute gave Ronaldo’s Portugal a 1-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
