Tambuwal will lead the PDP’s presidential campaign, while Gov. Makinde will preside over the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, will now serve as head of the PDP Governors’ Forum in order to maintain harmony within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a same vein, Sokoto State’s Aminu Tambuwal, the previous chairman of the Forum, will now lead the PDP’s presidential campaign.

These are some of the significant choices made yesterday by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Party’s National Caucus at their two sessions, conducted this week on Wednesday and Thursday.

As the PDP Presidential Campaign Council’s new director general, Tambuwal will carry out his duties.

The chairman of the PDP Governors Forum is anticipated to step down as chairman next week and take a significant position in the campaign council, according to a source close to the governor of Sokoto State.

The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who read the communiqué from the NEC meeting, said that the NEC had approved the Presidential Campaign Council’s organogram and organizational structure.

According to Ologunagba, who provided insight into the communiqué, “NEC endorsed a single campaign structure for the PDP for the 2023 general elections throughout the nation, which would concentrate more on the grassroots.

“NEC accepted the National Campaign Council’s proposed organizational structure and that of the National Campaign Management Council for the general elections of 2023.

“NEC also authorized the ward, unit, state, and local government campaign council structures.

“NEC unanimously gave the NWC authority to change and adapt the Campaign Councils’ organizational structures as necessary.

“NEC received and endorsed the proposed framework for the formation of Zonal Reconciliation Committees to ensure that our party presents a united face ahead of the general elections in 2023.

In preparation for the general elections in 2023, the NEC also received and approved the makeup of the PDP’s manifesto revision committee, the official added.

Although their nominations were kept a secret, Prince Uche Secondus, the former national chairman of the PDP, revealed the news in a letter of congratulations to the two appointments yesterday.

Secondus congratulated Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on their selections as the Director General of the Campaign Council and the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, respectively, in a statement he signed. He further congratulated Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President, on his election as the interim chairman of the board of trustees (BOT).

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, and the National Executive Committee of the party were praised by Secondus for stabilizing the party in preparation for victory in 2023.

The former National Chairman also praised Senator Walid Jibrin, the BOT’s immediate previous National Chairman, for quitting freely in the sake of party unity, peace, and harmony.

All PDP members were commanded by the previous party leader to work together for the ultimate win.

Although Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, is leading the fight against the South’s marginalization in the PDP, it is unknown whether his supporters would find these nominations acceptable.

Senator Jubrin had resigned from his position as PDP BoT chairman, and Adolphus Wabara, the former Senate President and PDP BoT secretary, took over as interim chairman.
