This Saturday is the Sene-Gambia CAF U20 championship game!

As Senegal virtually completely encloses Gambia, with the exception of the western portion that juts into the Atlantic Ocean, they could as well be one nation.

In the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations final game on Saturday, Senegal and Gambia will square off.

In the first semi-final, Senegal defeated Tunisia 3-0, while in the other semi-final, The Gambia defeated Nigeria 1-0.

They have a common denominator in that they both have the most goals scored and have not given up any throughout the competition. The Gambia has scored 10, while Senegal has scored 12.

After a deal struck between the two nations on December 12th, 1981, both originally went in the direction of a union to create the SeneGambia confederation on February 1st, 1982.

Its purpose was to foster collaboration between the two nations, but Senegal disbanded it on September 30, 1989, after the Gambia refused to proceed toward unification.

As they compete for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, they are now bound by destiny. If Senegal wins, they would solidify their position as the continent’s preeminent football power since they will be simultaneously holding three other titles and the U-20 crown.

Senegal now holds the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the African Cup of Nations, and the African Beach Soccer championships after winning in Algeria last month.

The Gambia will participate in a continental championship match for the first time this year.
