Kalvin Phillips, a summer acquisition by Manchester City, has vowed to never play for Manchester United.

Phillips claimed that because of his “loyalty” to his old team, Leeds United, Manchester United was never a possibility.

Phillips became a target for both Manchester City and United last season after putting on impressive displays for Leeds United and the England national side.

Phillips, a fan as well as a player for Leeds, claimed he had no desire to join his old team’s bitter rivals Manchester United, but instead opted to join them after a £45 million transfer was finalized last week.

The midfielder was questioned if there was ever a chance he may end up at United while on Pep Guardiola’s team’s preseason tour of the United States.

“No, there was never any chance of me moving there,” the England international told Man City journalists. You already know how loyal I am to Leeds, and my entire family supports the team as well.

“I was honored that United wanted me because they are such a large squad and one of the largest in the world.

But I had to remain loyal to Leeds and make the decision to travel to the opposite side of Manchester.
