Tinubu remains Buhari’s candidate, no plan for interim – Presidency

The Presidency said on Friday that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), has no intentions to prolong his term beyond May 29, 2023, or to appoint an interim administration.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokeswoman, Garba Shehu, issued a statement on Friday that stated, “Let us clearly, explicitly, and forcefully clarify that there is absolutely no reality to the notion that he is moving toward an interim administration or, worse, the termination of democracy.”

“Stop the farce about interim administration, elections will take place,” reads the message.
The President is eager to transfer authority to his chosen successor, according to Shehu. This will take place on May 29, 2023, as required by the Constitution.

What has to be made very apparent to skeptics, investors, and untruth-tellers is that the naira swap was not “designed” in any manner to extend the President’s term beyond May 29. There is no possible way that this is true.

The administration made this statement in response to assertions made by several governors who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress that Buhari’s insistence on the new currency policy will cause anarchy and need the installation of an interim government.

The President said on Thursday morning’s 7 a.m. broadcast that only old N200 notes will be accepted until April 10.

He said that the CBN must receive the N500 and N1000 notes by February 17 at the latest.
The governors of Kaduna and Kano states, Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje, respectively, said in separate interviews that the approach would bring about more crises that would obstruct elections and usher in an interim administration.

They also claimed that the new currency policy, which had caused riots and scattered demonstrations around the country, was an attempt to harm the APC’s standing and undermine Bola Tinubu’s prospects of winning the presidency.

The charges were refuted by the president, who said that discussion of an interim administration was “far off the mark.”

“Those who sell it have nothing to gain but the spread of fear and the arousal of popular animosity against the Federal Government.

It was also said that “it is another hazardous dimension by those who are frightened they may lose their elections.”

According to the president, with the current turn of events, there is a lot of pressure on everyone, including the party, its elected officials, candidates, and law enforcement agencies.

The President offered multiple channels for consultation with leaders and organizations throughout the nation, which culminated in his broadcast to the nation on Thursday morning, exactly because he is worried about this issue.

In keeping with his remarks, he made it plain that the issue of the currency supply needed to be solved right now.

“There is no reason to worry while this is being done. As a country, a people, and as leaders, we must cooperate.

“When panic strikes, individuals become hyperactive. No one benefits by shouting since nobody can hear it, Shehu said.
The president guaranteed Nigerians that the polls will go place on February 25.
The president also stated that Tinubu, the APC nominee, will continue to be Buhari’s preferred replacement.
