Banditry: Ministry of Education in Zamfara has not yet reopened 75 secondary schools

75 secondary schools in Zamfara State have not been reopened, according to the state’s administration, because of insecurity.

During a two-day State-level conference to domesticate the National Policy on Gender in Education (NPGE) in the State, Alhaji Kabiru Attahi, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, revealed this.

The Zamfara Universal Basic Education Board (ZUBEB), along with UNICEF, planned the event.

The state government, according to him, was working nonstop to reopen the affected schools.

He highlighted that the closure of the schools was due to the State’s ongoing bandit terror assaults.

Attahi went on to say that the majority of the State’s impacted institutions were secondary schools for females.

Remember that the governor of Zamfara State ordered that all schools be shuttered in September 2021 due to the high level of banditry activities in the State.

The State Governor ordered the closure of elementary and secondary schools after 75 students were kidnapped from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in the Maradun Local Government Area of the State.

Dr. Ahmed Hashim, the UNICEF consultant for the State, outlined the committee’s goals, which included reviewing the contributions from the previous meeting on the NPGE, domestication through the validation process, finalizing the implementation plan, and establishing the State implementation committee.
