Germany defeats Nigeria 2-1 despite Usani’s stunning goal.

Miracle Usani scored an incredible goal yesterday to put Nigeria ahead in their first match in the current India 2022 FIFA U-17 Women World Cup, but the Flamingos were unable to hold on as Germany recovered to defeat Goa 2-1.

The tournament, which began yesterday in locations all throughout India, was playing its second Group B match.

To advance from the zone, Nigeria needed to win since Chile had defeated New Zealand in the first match of Group B. However, after dominating the most of the first half under Bankole Olowookere’s coaching, the squad was unable to get the winning goal to kick off their season.

Faith Omilani, the goalkeeper for the Flamingos, was one of the Nigerian team’s bright spots as she stopped attempts from Mara Alber, Alara Sehitler, and Svea Stoldt.

The top scorer for the Flamingos, Opeyemi Ajakaye, beat the German defense to the ball in the 18th minute, but his flying blinder was deflected off the post by the German goalie.

The Flamingos ultimately scored in the 30th minute on Usani’s unimpeded freekick, giving them the lead.

In the second half, Germany made a stronger comeback and Svea Stold scored their well-earned equalizer in the 50th minute.

The goal appeared to give the Germans more motivation, and they continued to struggle against Nigeria’s defense. In the 61st minute, Mara Alber scored the game-winning goal to become Germany the European champions.

Olowookere’s ladies were forced to play New Zealand on Friday with a must-win situation after they were unable to get the equalizer despite their best efforts.

With no points and a negative goal differential, Nigeria is third in Group B.

Despite having the same three points as Germany, Chile tops the standings with a plus-four goal differential over the European champions’ plus-one.

New Zealand is lowest on the list with nil points and a minus four goal differential.
