Poor plumbing may result in building collapse – Firm.

Poor engineering design and bad plumbing system installation, according to a business that develops infrastructure and engineering, may cause structural instability in buildings and even cause them to collapse.

In response to the numerous building collapses in the nation, Anand Kumar, Head of Building Services, Engineering Division, PPC Limited, said such occurrences might be avoided with correct engineering methods and the use of high-quality materials.

He continued by saying that leaks in broken water or drainage pipes may cause water to seep into the building’s foundation, deteriorate the foundation, and ultimately cause the building to collapse.

One of the reasons of building collapse, according to the expert, is pipe corrosion since deteriorated plumbing systems increase the risk of a structure collapsing.

Before beginning any project, he emphasized that the terrain, soil composition, and topography of the location where a building is to be erected should be evaluated.

He said, “Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing experts are vital in the professional layout of the pipe system, drainage system, sinkhole, as well as surface water drainages, in today’s current building projects.

According to him, it is essential to integrate the plumbing system seamlessly with the mechanical and electrical systems in order to prevent overloads that might endanger the effective operation of building systems.

The regular stories of building collapses in the nation, according to Kumar, are depressing since they lead to unneeded devastation and fatalities. Such risks may be avoided in situations when the structural design is done well, high-quality materials are employed, and pipes are installed by experts.

The MEP engineers must work closely with architects, building owners, and other contractors to complete pre-construction and project management tasks that will guarantee the structural integrity of the building.

Making ensuring that samples of plumbing materials to be used in construction are put through compliance testing to determine their integrity is one strategy to prevent building collapse in the nation.

Ifeoluwa Ogunfuwa, the media strategist for PPC Limited, said, “According to the most recent statistics available from the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, over 271 structures have fallen in Nigeria over the previous 10 years, resulting in at least 531 fatalities.”
