Shell: Bonga reaches one billion barrels of oil export.

On Monday, Bonga, Nigeria’s first deep-water exploration and production vessel, exported one billion barrels of oil.

This achievement occurred three months after the facility’s major turnaround maintenance was finished earlier than expected.

Elohor Aiboni, managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, referred to the milestone as a celebration of excellence and targeted delivery that has significantly benefited Nigeria and Nigerians on Monday.

As the first female managing director of SNEPCo, Aiboni stated, “One billion barrels is a fantastic milestone. I’m immensely pleased of all of our staff and contractors who’ve contributed to the success of the Bonga FPSO and the realization of this great feat.

Aiboni also commended SNEPCo’s co-venturers TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, Nigerian Agip Oil Company, and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited for their helpful relationship with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Bonga’s success.

In addition to its numerous social investment programs in health, education, and sports, the Bonga floating production, storage, and offloading vessel, which started operations in 2005, is anchored 120 kilometers offshore in the Gulf of Guinea. Bonga consistently contributes to national revenue, the local capacity development of Nigerian engineers, and financial support for the service sector.

The cornerstones of SNEPCo’s success, in Aiboni’s opinion, are the integrated delivery method, continual development, and the support lever provided by Shell Group.

“We are creating a market-leading, safe, straightforward, and cost-disciplined deep-water operation that adds value to our partners, shareholders, and Nigeria, which is still a Shell stronghold,” she added.

With the continued drilling of wells in Bonga Phases 2 and 3, as well as a subsea tie-back that in August 2014 unlocked the neighboring Bonga Northwest field, the Bonga FPSO vessel has seen tremendous growth over time.

The renowned Platts Global Energy Awards in New York honored Bonga Northwest as the Engineering Project of the Year 2015 for its capacity to produce around 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Speaking on the Bonga billion-barrel milestone, the Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, praised the crew at SNEPCo, the majority of whom are Nigerians, for their tenacity, commitment, and focus.

Knowing that over 95% of SNEPCo employees, including those working on the Bonga FPSO, are qualified Nigerian deep-water specialists who everyday contribute their share to the development of Nigeria’s deep-water hydrocarbon resources gives me a great feeling of pride. Every member of the squad ought to be tremendously proud of themselves, added Okunbor.

Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC’s Nigeria Upstream Investment Management Services, congratulated SNEPCo and its co-venture partners and stated, “The numerous successes recorded by Bonga have continued to trigger significant development in Nigerian deep-water oil and gas exploration and production, which is why the place of Bonga in Nigeria’s upstream is clear.”
