The 39th annual powwow of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla is taking place.

The Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio will play home to the 39th annual Powwow of the Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Chairman Douglas Welmas said, “The Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians are looking forward to the return of our Powwow.” “We are proud to showcase the vibrant regalia, dances, music, song, and history of the indigenous people of North America to non-native people as well as other native peoples, and to share our rich tradition of bird singing, which is an oral form of storytelling.”

Several tribes and some locals attend the three-day event to participate in the cultural customs.

The Jingle Dancer contestant Roxanne Gomez said, “I think Pow wow is just a small part of reclaiming what was the part of our rich cultures; every tribe is different.”

To compete in competitions at various levels and win cash and prizes, people have traveled. The vibrant ceremony emphasizes Indian people’s resilience and cultural symbolism.

Gomez sewed her own clothing and the clothes for her kids. They topped themselves with golden eagle feathers as well.

Gomez said, “So for us, they’re they’re really important to us. “Being connected and our prayer because much of this is ceremony and lots of prayer goes into it, as much as it is fun and contest-driven. These feathers therefore aid in that.
