Court tells ASUU to end its strike, breaking

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has been ordered by the Nigerian National Industrial Court to end its ongoing statewide strike.

According to the MINIECHAT, ASUU has been striking since February 14 in an effort to raise awareness of its demands, which include more financing for universities and a reassessment of teachers’ pay among other things.

ASUU and the Federal Government have had many talks that resulted in no resolution.

As a result, the Federal Government filed a lawsuit to oppose the strike.

TheCable reports that the government asked the court for an interlocutory injunction to prevent ASUU from continuing its strike while the court considered the substantive lawsuit. This request was made via the government’s attorney, James Igwe.
