EASA Speaks of Willingness to Work with BAGAIA

The Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency has indicated interest in learning more about the principles of the European Co-ordination Centre for Accident and Incident Reporting Systems (ECCAIRS), which the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is willing to offer (BAGAIA).

In response to the unique requirements made by the BAGAIA delegation, the EASA Senior International Cooperation Officer sub-Sahara Africa Regional Coordinator, Yves Koning, said that discussions with ICAO about the specifics of implementing ECCAIRS outside of Europe are still underway.

Yes, it is already being implemented in Europe, but they are working with ICAO to finalize the details of how to execute it outside of Europe, said Koning, who expressed gratitude for the request. It will then be expanded on train the trainer after that is finished.

The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (DG JRC) is overseeing the ECCAIRS project, a network of civil aviation authorities and safety investigation authorities in Europe, at the request of the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), and in close coordination with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

BAGAIA made the call for peer evaluations of procedures in the locations where EU experts would conduct due diligence and then deliver reports as part of the EU-ASA initiative.

Additionally, BAGAIA asked for training on the latest version of ECCAIRS and the development of human capability.
