Engage in contemporary research to advance African culture

Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has tasked academicians with doing research to modernize African culture in order to promote it among other civilizations throughout the globe.

Speaking during Professor Jeleel Ojuade’s Tuesday installation as Crown Hill University’s third vice chancellor in Eyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, Oba Ogunwusi made the claim.

The Waasi of Ilare-Ife, Oba Olasode Zacheaus, and High Chief Oluwole Bode-Thomas, Laadin of Ife, who were the monarch’s representatives at the event, observed the display of various Yoruba dances put on by the Ayangalu dance group (Alarinjo), the Students of Performing Arts Department of the University of Ilorin, and the Performing Arts and Film Production department of Kwara State

“I want to exhort members of the academic community to boost up study into the diverse African cultures so that it can be known to other people in other parts of the World,” Ooni remarked via Oba Olasode.

The king commanded the academics to always demonstrate devotion to whichever field they specialize in throughout their academic programs and stated that they should do so with tenacity and commitment in any area of study throughout their academic careers.

As a professor of Performance and Cultural Studies with a focus on Dance Studies and Practice, Ooni, the university’s chancellor, said of Ojuade that “as a practical dancer, he exhibits a commitment to his profession and that Ojuade as a practical dancer has always been tenacious and committed to culture and traditional dances on which he specialized.”

He exhorted the other academicians to constantly demonstrate dedication and carry out timely research in their areas of specialization.
He pledged to always be there for the Institution when it needed him.

In his remarks, Ojuade, Crown Hill University’s newly appointed vice chancellor, vowed to lead a student-focused administration and utilize his connections and breadth of expertise to help the university go even further.
He promised to do all in his power to advance the CHU and establish it as a leader, particularly in the fields of education, research, and civic engagement.

“We are operating in your best interests, I hasten to stress. To advance the University, we will have fruitful and helpful conversations. You’ll be able to be heard. We will operate a student-focused administration. Let me simply remark that there are silver linings hidden behind what seem to be black clouds, Ojuade stated.

Ojuade praised the institution’s owner for his persistent support of the expansion and improvement of education in Nigeria and praised the pioneering efforts of his forebears for setting the groundwork for the strong foundation that he promised to build upon.

“I won’t conclude my speech without expressing my gratitude to my immediate predecessors, Prof. Deboye Kolawole, the pioneering VC, Prof. GHG, and Prof. Olorunmaiye.
I salute their efforts to pave the way and break new ground. They were successful in building CHU, Eyenkorin, and llorin’s strong basis. I am standing on the shoulders of these great men, so if I seem taller than my contemporaries, it is because I am. Thank you, sirs,” he continued.

The vice chancellors of the eight universities in Kwara State, notable traditional leaders from all across the nation, the celebrant’s friends and family, as well as students from the university, all attended the ceremony.
