Good Samaritan and NYPD officers rescue man from subway tracks moments before train arrives

Just before an approaching train came, a kind Samaritan who was in the right position at the right time and a team of New York City police officers who hurried to the scene saved a guy who had fallen on the subway tracks, according to authorities.

At the East 116 Street and Lexington Avenue subway station on Thursday night on the 6 line, two NYPD officers from the 25th Precinct were conducting a platform check when riders alerted them that a man had fallen on the train tracks of another platform.

The policemen can be seen coming to the man’s rescue in bodycam footage that New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell uploaded online. In the video, when the cops arrive, there is already another person at the man’s side on the tracks. The good Samaritan assisted the authorities in getting the guy off the rails and onto the platform, according to the NYPD.

The rescue is captured on the bodycam camera, along with the approaching train that arrived immediately after the victim was taken off the tracks.

While waiting for help from medical professionals, a third officer who had just arrived “was able to utilize his past medical skills to administer treatment to the aided guy,” according to the NYPD.

According to authorities, EMS arrived and transported the guy to a nearby hospital in stable condition with just minor injuries to his hand and back. There were no other recorded injuries.

The bravery of NY’s Finest never ceases to amaze me, Sewell said on Twitter. “The heroism is second nature for the @NYPD25Pct cops who saved a guy from an incoming train after he accidently fell on the subway lines yesterday in Manhattan.”
