NASENI begins production of farm tools.

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive, Prof. Mohammad Haruna, has said that the organization would modernize agriculture in order to eradicate hunger and generate employment in the nation.

This came as he said that NASENI was prepared to produce agricultural tools, machinery, and equipment that are indigenous to Nigeria, saying that the equipment would be developed to accommodate the unique characteristics of Nigerian soil and terrain.

According to reports, Haruna made the statements during the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute’s commissioning in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

One of the 12 new institutions established to hasten Nigeria’s transition to a manufacturing knowledge-based economy is AMEDI.

In order to assist the efforts of the President in achieving food and nutritional security in Nigeria and for Nigerians, he said that AMEDI was focused on the application of scientific and engineering infrastructure.

Speaking at the occasion, Haruna said that AMEDI was the first of six new agricultural-technology-based institutions that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, had ordered to be created throughout the geopolitical zones (retd.).
