Blind job Seekers Are Brutalized By Federal Commission Guards, With Several Being Hospitalized.

Security guards affiliated to the Federal Civil Service Commission in Abuja have been accused of brutalizing members of the Association of Technology Inclined Visually Impaired Persons of Nigeria during a peaceful demonstration.

PUNCH received photos and recordings. The moment the demonstrators were dragged and abused by the guards was captured on video by Metro.

Members of the group held the demonstration, according to our source, in order to encourage the commission to consider their request for employment.

Tolulope Aluko, the association’s president, stated that they have been looking for work with the commission since 2020.

He added that the group also approached the Office of the Secretary to the Federation’s Government, which wrote a letter on their behalf to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission.

He said, “We visited the commission in July last year and we were told to come back. We came back again on April 11, but they didn’t answer us.

“When we came today (Tuesday), they said we should come back, but we refused to leave. We started protesting peacefully. The press came, but immediately they left, the security guards started beating us and destroyed our things.”
