JUST-IN: Again, Accident Claims 1 In Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified private car owner was killed once more on Thursday morning by a commercial bus driver while driving against traffic around Meiran area of Ifako-Ijaiye local government area of Lagos, hours after some Lagos State government workers were killed when a moving train collided with a bus at PWD in Ikeja on Thursday.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), a commercial bus driven by a Volkswagen with the registration number EPE 964XX collided with a Honda Civic with the registration number EPE 666 BC, killing the driver instantly.

According to him, the collision happened at 9:30 am, and the driver of the Honda Civic suffered a severe neck injury before passing almost quickly in a pool of his own blood.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the deceased driver resided in Meiran Estate, which is near to the location of the collision.

In his own words, “LASTMA Officers, who were first on the scene in the event of an emergency, handed over the body to his family as they emerged from the estate.

“Both cars were taken off the road right away to make room for other road users to travel freely.

“Vehicles were turned over to police officers from the Meiran Police Station while the driver of the VW commercial bus that made a one-way trip fled.

But, the General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, cautioned drivers, both private and commercial, not to break traffic regulations, especially by driving against the flow of traffic (one-way).

Driving in the opposite direction of traffic (one-way) is a waiting dead end on the roadways, according to the General Manager.
